Organize Your Photos Now, Don't Wait For The Next Stage In Life.
All too often, we get caught up in waiting for the next stage in our life. We think that when we graduate, when we get married, when we have a stable job, when we have children, when we retire... THEN we will be happy and be able to enjoy life more. But in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Our lives, and often our best memories, are made up of all the small moments that make up the big picture.
This is why I love seeing pictures of every day moments. Don't’ get me wrong, the ones that are posed and edited and perfect definitely have their place. But I have found, and I have heard others say this as well, that the most treasured pictures are often the messy, unplanned, genuine pictures that capture those little moments.
When one of my nephews was born, my brother and sister-in-law took a picture every day for the first year of his life. I lived across the country at the time and I so appreciated seeing a moment from his day and watching him grow. I have tried to take at least one picture or video every day this year. I am able to capture moments that I wouldn’t otherwise and it helps me remember when things happened when my days all seem to run together.
So now that we are at that time of the year when many of us are realizing how unrealistic our New Year’s Resolutions really were, I want to invite you to make another goal, but make it realistic. I invite you to capture more of the small moments that make up your day. Even if it is only once a month or just whenever you think about it, take a picture or a video. It only takes a few seconds and it is so fun to find unique things to photograph in each day. Then organize those photos in a way that you can later step back and enjoy those little moments, because those are what make up your journey.
